Do fans crave too much information? Has the need to know absolutely everything about one’s favorite sports teams and players gone overboard and become an obsession?
Thanks to Twitter and other forms of social media, it seems there is a never-ending cycle of news and, more importantly, sports coverage.
Don’t get me wrong, I get both Twitter and ESPN updates sent straight to my phone and constantly feel that I need to know, and be among the first to know, what is going on with my favorite teams and players.
But at what point does fandom become an obsession?
While being in a constant search for more knowledge and information may seem like the symptoms of a true fan, there are also moments where fans need to be able to step away, disconnect, and avoid twitter and ESPN for an extended period of time.
I have heard that it can be relaxing and enjoyable, but I wouldn’t know first hand because I, like so many of my friends, have become addicted to the 24-hour news cycle and am constantly craving new information about my favorite teams, athletes and leagues.
