Whether the ASU men’s golf team will be stuck in the sand traps or building toward victory is yet to be determined as it travels to the California coast.
After a disappointing weekend in Hawaii, the Sun Devils shift their focus this weekend to the Battle of the Beach tournament in Newport Coast, Calif.
The tournament field includes 13 teams, among them last year’s national champions Augusta State.
Unlike the previous tournament, the format allows for six golfers to attend per team. Playing for ASU will be seniors Jesper Kennegard, Scott Pinckney, Oscar Zetterwall, Thomas Buran and James Byrne, and junior Philip Francis.
Both Pinckney and Kennegard tied for sixth at the last tournament.
Last year the Sun Devils finished sixth in the California tournament and are looking to improve with the large amount of experience on this year’s team.
ASU coach Randy Lein has been very vocal about this team having outstanding potential and it seems things might come to fruition if the team finishes high on Sunday.
