The ASU women’s soccer team has announced their spring schedule for 2011.
The spring season is a chance for teams to start to rebuild after the loss of their seniors and a chance to give younger players some time on the field.
The Sun Devils currently have five home games on the schedule. The first two are on March 5, against NAU and BYU.
ASU then faces UTEP later in March, and then has another doubleheader against New Mexico State and UC Riverside.
The Sun Devils faced NAU in their season opener last fall, and defeated the Lumberjacks on a last-second goal, 4-3.
ASU is losing four players to graduation over the summer: midfielders Alexandra Elston and Lindsey Johns and forwards Karin Volpe and Jill Shoquist.
Volpe was ASU’s leading scorer for three out of her four years as a Sun Devil. The spring season is a chance for ASU to give its younger forwards some time to grow before the grueling regular season in the fall.
The youthful Sun Devils came out of the gate strong at the start of the 2010 season but faltered during a tough Pac-10 schedule. They finished with a 9-8-3 record.
