Softball holds first Maroon and Gold scrimmage

The 2011 season has finally arrived for the ASU softball team. One final tuneup remains for the Sun Devils before tournament play kicks off with the Kajikawa Classic on Feb. 10.

Tomorrow night the Sun Devils will take the field at Farrington Stadium in the team’s first Maroon and Gold scrimmage.

This scrimmage is the first chance for spectators to get a glance at this year’s squad. The Sun Devils were ranked in several preseason polls, including No. 13 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I softball poll.

In the Pac-10 coaches’ preseason poll, ASU was voted third, behind 2010 National Champion UCLA and last year’s runner-up, UA.

First pitch will be at 6:45 p.m., and the game is free to everyone, with ASU providing giveaways at each half inning.

ASU’s first official game is next Thursday against Western Michigan.
