FOR SELF-DEFENSE, LET’S HAVE GUNS ON CAMPUS
(In response to Beth Easterbrook’s March 23 article, “House panels to debate campus gun bill.”)
I'm writing in response to the article regarding the gun bill that would allow students to carry firearms on campus. First, I would like to applaud the author for staying objective. However, I would like to respond to one of the quotes in the article.
Sen. Robert Meza, D-Phoenix, is quoted saying that students shouldn't have to worry that the person next to them has a gun.
I would like to point out that I already worry that the person next to me has a gun. I am more concerned that I don't have a gun. As a law-abiding student, I don't have a weapon.
But, when I went for a run yesterday on the West campus I saw a man with a revolver sticking out of his pants, even though this is illegal. People that don't care about the law and want to hurt someone will, no matter what the law says.
I would also like to point out that we are United States citizens and are granted the right to bear arms by the Constitution. We are adults and it's about time we start being treated that way. Lowell Blair
