Man stopped for speeding assaults Tempe officer


A male suspect pulled over for speeding assaulted a Tempe Police officer Tuesday afternoon on the 2300 block of East Apache Boulevard.

The motor officer attempted to stop the vehicle after seeing it speeding in the area of Price Road and Apache Boulevard at around 2 p.m., police reported.

The driver failed to stop for a period of time and eventually came to a stop near the same intersection.

The suspect initially refused to leave the vehicle, and when he eventually emerged, he assaulted the officer, according to the police report.

The officer restrained the man and placed him under arrest, police reported.

Both the officer and the man were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, according to the police report.

The man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and exhibition of speed offense.
