Men’s swim looks strong at Pac-10s

The Arizona State men’s swim team has yet to record any victories at the Pac-10 Championships, but is off to a solid start.

ASU’s relay teams were strong on the first day, recording both a fifth and sixth place finish.

The Sun Devils finished fifth in the 200-medley relay with an NCAA consideration time of 1 minute, 29.59 seconds. The relay team consisted of freshman David Adalsteinsson, junior Jesper Akesson, junior Yutaro Yamashita and senior Nolan Ruane.

ASU earned another NCAA consideration time for their performance in the 800 free relay. This team finished sixth and consisted of Yamashita, freshman Ryan Glander, freshman Daniel Jurgs and sophomore Caleb Veazy.

The individual events started on Thursday, and ASU was able to come away with some solid results in the preliminary rounds as two Sun Devils qualified for the finals in the 500 free.

Both Yamashita and Veazy will be competing in the finals and will compete against each other in the first heat.

As a team, Arizona State is currently in fifth place, while UA is in sixth. Stanford is leading the meet with 74 points, but Cal is a close second with 72.

Pac-10 newcomers Santa Barbara and Cal Poly are in fourth and seventh place, respectively.
