The Carnegie Corporation of New York and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation have granted $2.32 million to ASU’s News21 program, which will fund the program for the next decade.
News21, the in-depth digital journalism program that is run through the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and mass communication, is one of 12 university programs that produce investigative reports on various media platforms.
The Carnegie Corporation and Knight Foundation started News21 in 2005 at five universities. In 2008, seven other schools were added, including ASU.
The funding will allow News21 to be open to all journalism programs and will be modeled after the program that is based at the Walter Cronkite School.
Students who participate in News21 work with experienced leaders in the industry and learn how to produce investigative stories on multiple media platforms.
