Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:

  • A 27-year-old Queen Creek man was arrested early Wednesday morning on the 1000 block of South Longmore in Mesa on suspicion of aggravated assault after an investigation found the man had entered a woman’s apartment without permission on the 1800 block of East Broadway Road on the night of May 23, police reported.The man threatened a woman in the apartment with a knife during an argument where the man claimed the apartment owner     owed him $5-$10, according to a police report.

    The woman said the man grabbed her by both arms and pushed her to the floor after arguing about the man leaving, police reported.

    She also said the man attempted to kick her while she was on the ground and had a kitchen knife in his right hand, according to a report.

    He then began punching her in the face, neck and arms and she sustained a small laceration on a finger during the attack, police reported.

    A witness assisted the woman by “bear hugging” the man and carrying him outside the apartment, according to a report.

    The man fled the scene and was later picked out of a photographic line-up by the victim, police reported.

    He was picked up on Wednesday night and during an interview admitted to entering the apartment uninvited, according to a report.

    The man said he left the apartment but attempted to take the knife away from the woman, police reported.

    He denied punching or kicking the victim and said he was not trying to assault her and had suffered a cut on his finger during the incident, according to a report.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of first degree burglary, police reported.

  • A 22-year-old Topeka, Kan. man was arrested late Wednesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and criminal damage, police reported.He was stopped after he was seen speeding and following too closely at the intersection of East Broadway Road and South Price Road, according to a police report.

    The man did not pull over until he was in front in the driveway of his girlfriend's residence, police reported.

    Investigation revealed he was driving on a suspended license that was revoked for a previous DUI, according to a report.

    The girlfriend also filed a report for the man just prior to being pulled over after he broke her front window during an argument, police reported.
