Possible arson on third floor of BAC building

The ASU Police Department received a distress call around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning near 400 block of East Lemon Street, which was quickly followed by a fire alarm from the third floor of the Business Administration C wing building, Cmdr. Jim Hardina said.

The building was then evacuated.

Police and the Tempe Fire Department responded to the third floor of the building and found what appeared to be possible arson, Hardina said.

The man who submitted the distress call was with police and is a possible suspect for the fire, Hardina said.

As of 11 a.m. the fire had been extinguished and the first two floors of the building had been reopened.

The third floor will be closed for the remainder of the day and the two classrooms affected by the fire might be closed longer depending on the clean up-efforts, ASU spokeswoman Julie Newberg said.
