Tim Mickelson is coming from the University of San Diego to ASU, as he was announced as the new head golf coach on Saturday.

Mickelson, brother of ex-ASU and current pro golfer Phil, led the USD program to its first three NCAA appearances, while collecting four WCC championships in eight years.

“Sun Devil fans have heard me speak frequently about identifying and hiring master coaches at Arizona State University,” Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love said in a press release. “Tim Mickelson possesses the qualities of what we're looking for and not just because of his famous last name. He is a talented leader, a knowledgeable coach and a dynamic recruiter.”

Mickelson was an ASU golfer under previous coach Randy Lein. Lein was recently informed that his contract would not be extended for his 20th year.

Mickelson was also a part of the team that is considered Lein’s best at ASU, when the Sun Devils won a National Championship in 1996.

He transferred to Oregon State to finish his career in 1999. At OSU he led the beavers to a second place finish in the 2000 Pac-10 conference championships.
