Tempe Police reported the following incidents on Tuesday:
- A 28-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Wednesday at the 100 block of University Drive on suspicion of possessing a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia, according to a police report.
An officer responded to a call of suspicious activity of a man at a Circle K convenience store, according to the report.
The man was holding a crumpled piece of paper and put it behind the water dispenser after seeing the officer approach him, and when the officer began to question the man, he started arguing why he was being questioned and denied even putting his hands behind the water dispenser, police reported.
The officer detained the man and then searched the water dispenser where a glass pipe with white and black burnt residue was found inside the crumpled piece of paper, according to the report.
The officer inspected the pipe and found a small plastic bag with a white powdery substance inside, which was later confirmed to be methamphetamines, police reported.
The man denied ownership of the substance and pipe and said the items were planted on him because he was an immigrant, according to the report.
The man was transported and booked into Tempe City Jail, police reported.
- A 39-year-old transient man and a 40-year-old transient woman were arrested together Tuesday at the 1800 block of Apache Boulevard on suspicion of stealing a vehicle, according to a police report.
The couple had been investigated by the police for being in possession of a white 2003 Ford Medical Transport Van registered to the Arizona Medical Transport service without permission, according to the report.
The couple had the van since about Aug. 17, the police reported.
The couple told police they had worked for Arizona Medical Transport then later changed their story and said they had hoped to be hired there, according to the police report.
The Arizona Medical Transport confirmed that neither are employees of the service, police reported.
The couple then said a friend at Arizona Medical Transport loaned the couple the van to move belongings and even paid the friend to “rent” the vehicle, according to the report.
Police contacted the friend and said he did loan the couple the van but did not anticipate them to keep the van and had contacted them multiple times to return the van, police reported.
The friend had no authority from Arizona Medial Transport to loan the van, according to the report.
The couple was arrested, transported and booked to Tempe City Jail, police reported.
- An 18-year-old Tempe man was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the 500 block of University Drive on Thursday, according to a police report.
An officer responded to a call from an apartment building staff member describing a “strong odor” of marijuana coming from the suspect’s room, police reported.
When the officer knocked on the door of the room the man answered the door and was alone in the room, according to the report.
The officer told the man he was there for suspicion of the usage of marijuana; the man immediately admitted to having the drug in his room, police reported.
The man showed the officer his marijuana in his desk drawer, also revealing his silver circular grinder and vaporizer, used for smoking, the police reported.
The marijuana was placed in a glass vial and the man admitted to smoking the drug about three hours before the officer arrived, but had used a vaporizer so the smell would not linger, according to the report.
The man admitted to the officer that this was only the man’s third time using marijuana in his room, according to the report.
The officer transported the man to Tempe City Jail and was released pending charges of drug possession, the police reported.
