ASU students and fans now have a new, eco-friendly way to get to and from athletic events.
In partnership with ASU Polytechnic’s College of Technology and Innovation, Clean Air Cab is providing two custom-designed Toyota Hybrid Prius cabs for students to get to or from football, basketball and baseball games.
For each time the cabs are used, one dollar goes to a dual scholarship fund one for students in the sustainability program and another in the entrepreneurship program.
Steve Lopez, owner of Clean Air Cab, said he decided to partner with the University because of the fundraising opportunity.
“I wanted to give back to my community in ways that can make our community stronger,” he said.
Lopez said his goal was to get students thinking about how to make a more sustainable economy.
Lopez approached Audrey Iffert, director of the School of Technology and Innovation, about the idea.
“I am really excited to be working with Steve because he’s such a visionary in terms of private companies giving back to their community,” Iffert said.
Phoenix mobile advertising design firm Smart Wraps created and donated the design for the cabs.
“We heard about the new identity of ASU so we were definitely excited to be a part of a campaign that included this new look,” Smart Wraps creative director Steve Clark said.
The cabs differ from the traditional yellow and green cabs, one cab is maroon and gold and the other black with the new pitchfork logo.
These cabs will be based near campus on game days, but can also be requested any day of the week through Clean Air Cab.
The cabs will be stationed on Sixth Street and Alpha drive during the football season.
