A MISREPRESENTATION OF GUN SAFETY AND OWNERS

(In response to Anthony Eskridge’s Sept. 20 editorial cartoon.)

From this comic I gathered that gun owners are irresponsible and would hand over guns to children and allow them to run wild with them. Are you sure all gun owners have that mentality?

Every gun owner I have encountered has been overly cautious about gun safety and won’t let adults even touch a firearm before instructing them on basic rules of gun safety.

I’m curious to know too why an AK was selected for this cartoon. Most gun owners in America who fight for the right to defend themselves don’t purchase AKs to defend themselves but rather opt for handguns. An AK is more of an offensive gun (used in mass murders or by militaries).

This cartoon doesn’t even allow for the idea that citizens use guns as a defensive mechanism, or that gun owners are responsible citizens.

Also, I’m confused by the religion slide. The connection it implies is that gun nuts are also religion nuts. I’m not sure if that relationship was intended, but that’s how it’s coming across.

Thanks for the opportunity to voice my opinion on this. I’m not saying I think guns should be allowed on educational property; I just don’t agree with the logic used in this cartoon.
