ASU Police reported the following incident Monday:
- A 27-year-old man was arrested the morning of Sept. 6 at the 900 block of East Lemon Street on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to a police report. An officer was on a routine patrol route in the left lane heading north on Rural Road when he saw a silver Pontiac Grand Am traveling southbound slightly veer into the officer’s lane approximately 15 feet away, police reported.
The man corrected himself and continued to drive southbound, according to the report.
The officer made a U-turn followed the vehicle, according to the report.
While approaching the intersection of Lemon Street and Rural Road, the traffic signal was red but the man made a left turn through the intersection, police reported.
The officer kept following the man in the Grand Am on Lemon Street when the officer turned his emergency lights on, initiating the vehicle to stop, according to the report.
The officer then turned his sirens on because the man did not stop, police reported.
When the man did stop, the officer approached the man in the vehicle and noticed the man had bloodshot watery eyes, according to the report.
The officer could also smell the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and asked the man how much alcohol he had to drink to which the man replied “four drinks,” police reported.
The officer asked the man to step out of the vehicle and the officer could smell alcohol on the man’s breath and then asked the man to submit to field sobriety tests and the man agreed, according to the report.
After the man performed all the sobriety tests he also agreed to a Breathalyzer test, which resulted in a blood alcohol content of .204, police reported.
The officer placed the man under arrest and transported him to the ASU Police station, according to the report.
The man was released hours later from the station after receiving his citations, police reported.
