Tempe Police reported the following incidents on Wednesday:
- A Tempe man was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession Thursday morning near the railroad tracks behind East Vista Del Cerro Drive after a Tempe police officer saw him walking in a restricted area owned by Southern Pacific Transportation Company, according to a police report. When the officer asked the man if he had anything he shouldn’t have in his pockets, the man pulled out a clear bag with a green leafy substance from his right pocket, according to the report. The man said to the officer the bag wasn’t his but because it was in his pocket “it must be mine,” police reported. The man said he had changed pants at a friend’s apartment after his shift at work, which reportedly had the marijuana in them, according to the report. The man was booked into Tempe City Jail, police reported.
- A Mesa woman was arrested Saturday on suspicion of marijuana possession while traveling west on the light rail after a Tempe police officer smelled a “heavy odor of marijuana” coming from the back of the train car, according to a police report. The Mesa woman was sitting with another woman and when the officer asked who had the marijuana, the Mesa woman handed the officer a marijuana cigarette from her right pocket, according to the report. The Mesa woman and the other woman were escorted off the light rail and the officer read the Mesa woman her Miranda rights, police reported. The Mesa woman’s backpack was searched and no other marijuana was found, according to the report. The Mesa woman was booked into the Tempe City Jail and released pending her sentence, police reported.
