Tempe Police reported the following incidents Friday:
- A 19-year-old Tempe man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possessing marijuana at the corner of University Drive and 52nd Street, according to a police report.An officer observed and pulled the man over after making a wide turn from Priest Drive onto University Drive, police reported.
After the officer approached the man in his vehicle, the man immediately admitted to smoking marijuana in the past, while appearing nervous, according to the report.
The man also told the officer he was unsure if anything illegal was in the vehicle but there was a possibility his friends had left drug paraphernalia in the car, according to the report.
A K-9 unit conducted a sniff and search on the exterior of the vehicle because the man denied the officer permission to search inside the vehicle, and the K-9 reacted to the odor of a drug coming from inside, police reported.
The man stepped out of the car and the officer found marijuana in a small plastic zip close bag inside the driver’s door, according to the report.
The man was placed under arrest and admitted to possessing the drug and told the officer he smokes marijuana about three to four times a week and purchases it on Mill Avenue, police reported.
The man was transported and booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending a count of possession of marijuana, according to the report.
- A 29-year-old transient woman was arrested Wednesday morning in Phoenix on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, dangerous drugs, prescription drugs and driving on a suspended license, according to a police report.A Tempe Police officer followed the woman on the Red Mountain Freeway after leaving a residence at Priest Drive and Sixth Street and pulled the woman over at 44th Street after observing the woman fail to drive in a single lane, police reported.
The woman admitted to the officer that she was driving with a suspended license, which the officer later confirmed through dispatch, according to the report.
The officer placed the woman under arrest and had the vehicle towed and impounded, police reported.
During a search of the vehicle, police found a burnt marijuana joint on the passenger seat, a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamines on the floor board of the rear seat and a plastic zip close bag, which contained a cigar, half dipped in Phencyclidine, next to the pipe, according to the report.
Police also found four white pills, later confirmed to be generic Bactrim antibiotic drugs, police reported.
The woman admitted to the officer she smokes both marijuana and methamphetamines regularly and had smoked some methamphetamines before driving and was going to smoke the PCP dipped cigar at a park in Phoenix, according to the report.
The woman was transported and booked into jail and per policy was strip-searched, where police found a small zip close bag with methamphetamine residue in her bra, police reported.
The woman was released pending drug charges but was cited for driving on a suspended license, according to the report.
