Just months after graduating, ASU alumnus and national champion Anthony Robles will return to the Sun Devil wrestling team as a coach.

Coach Shawn Charles announced yesterday Robles will serve as a volunteer coach, beginning in the 2011-12 season. Charles also said Robles will concentrate with the lightweights. He is expected to serve as an inspiration for the wrestlers.

While as a student-athlete for ASU, Robles accumulated an career record of 122-23 over four years, finishing undefeated at 36-0 in his senior season and won the NCAA Championship at 125 pounds.

Robles was also a three-time Pac-10 Conference Champion, three-time NCAA All-American, the 2011 NWCA Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament, and qualified for the NCAA Championships in all four years.

He owns both season and career team records for bonus-point victories and technical falls. He is also ranked eight in wins and 10th in team history.

This will be Roble’s first coaching stint as a graduate.
