It’s that time of year again: ASU football season. Dorms are heavily decorated with posters showing different “Sun Devil laws” and telling you that the bigger the support at a game, the more likely we are to win.

You’ve also probably been bombarded on campus with tons of  “It’s Time” flyers and e-mails encouraging you to purchase student season tickets as soon as possible.

For just $149 ASU students can attend all seven home football and home basketball games. For only $30 more you can purchase the Inferno package. The charges will appear on your student account.

In addition to attending all the home football and basketball games, members of the Inferno are members of the Student Sun Devil Club and Student Alumni Associations, and they receive a t-shirt, key tag, and priority seating at men's basketball games.

But are student season tickets worth it?

Being a season student ticket holder myself both this year and last year, I definitely do think they are a great deal. I am not a huge sports fan, and at first I was kind of skeptical about purchasing season tickets.

However, after attending my first football game last year, I knew I had made the right decision.

Going to a game with friends is a fun experience, win or lose. It’s also a good way to show off school spirit. At games you have the opportunity to make new friends and find out what it means to be a true Sun Devil.

“I enjoy sports and I felt like it was a good deal for my money,” said Jordan Firman, a parks and recreation management sophomore.

“The alternative would have been paying for single game tickets which would have cost me more money in the long run,”

Jed Hernandez, a health science junior, just recently purchased student season tickets after attending the first football game.

“Going to the game on Thursday made me feel like I wanted to get season tickets so I would have something to do on weekends and just be part of the school more,” said Hernandez.

“Seeing everybody at the game just made me want to be a part of it and I really think it’s a reasonable price because you can go to football and basketball games.”

However, not everyone finds it necessary or monetarily feasible to purchase student tickets in order to be “spirited.”

“I decided not to buy the season tickets because college is insanely expensive, and I am paying for it on my own,” said Sarah Grimes, an exploratory health & life sciences freshman.

Grimes would rather save money to spend on the essentials. She plans on watching all of the games on TV and only purchasing a ticket for the ASU vs. UA football game.

While watching football games on TV may seem like a great way to support our team, you won’t get the same experience as being at the game surrounded by school spirit and your fellow Sun Devils.

While student tickets may be an expensive purchase, nothing can replace the feeling of the atmosphere and joy of being a Sun Devil that comes with going to the games.
