WHO ARE YOU KIDDING? WALL STREET IS ALL AROUND YOU
(In response to Ben Karris’ Oct. 12 column, “Waking up from the ‘American Dream’ part 1: The fall of the middle class.”)
I find it strange how Ben Karris was happy to point out what others have added to the deficit, but forgot to add how much the current administration has already added.
You also forgot to explain how much of the tax revenue is produced by those “1 percent.” The top “1 percent” pays 40 percent of the current federal income tax revenue.
I want you to tell me how much of the tax burden you think they should be responsible for. When would you be happy … 50 or 75 percent? How much do you think the bottom 50 percent should be responsible for … 0 percent (which is what they pay), or should we just start giving them money we take from the rest of the taxpayers? I think they have a duty as Americans to contribute to our nation.
"The American Dream" is not dead. My roommate who is opening a local donut shop is following his "American Dream." As a partner in a small business I can say my "American Dream" is still alive.
I find it insulting when people say there is no "American Dream," when all those around me are proudly following their dreams. Instead of blaming big business, blame yourself for supporting those “corporate” businesses, voting the policy makers into office, and for not holding those responsible accountable.
Wall Street does the things it does because policymakers not only allow it, but also encourage it. Do you know anyone that owns stock? If so, they are also Wall Street. Small business owners are Wall Street. Capitalism is Wall Street, and I am Wall Street!
