While assisting the driver from the car, the officer noticed an open 12 ounce can of Budweiser lying on the driver’s side floorboard and an open 30 pack of Budweiser with at least 20 beers left behind the driver’s seat, according to the report.
While speaking to the driver and asking if he required medical attention, the officer noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery and detected the distinct odor of an intoxicating beverage emanating from his mouth, police reported.
The officer asked the male if he had been drinking and he stated, “Yeah, I probably shouldn’t be driving,” according to a police report. When the man was asked if he would be willing to perform field sobriety tests he refused, police reported.
The officer placed the man under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported him to Tempe City Jail for further DUI processing, according to the report. After the officer checked with Tempe dispatch it was revealed the man’s Arizona driver’s license was revoked, police reported. A driver’s history check revealed it was revoked for an extreme DUI in 2005 and a second aggravated DUI in August, according to a report.
The man submitted to two breath tests, which revealed a blood alcohol content of about .365, according to the report. Because of the man’s BAC results he was transported to Tempe St. Luke’s hospital for medical evaluation and he was later booked into Tempe City Jail for aggravated DUI where he was held in custody, police reported.
