Police Beat: Oct. 21


ASU Police reported the following incident Thursday:

  • Police are searching for a man accused of taking pictures of a woman inside a bathroom near Cady Mall and Lemon Street Tuesday afternoon, according to a police report.The woman was using the bathroom around 4:05 p.m. when she heard someone else enter the door, police reported.

    After a few minutes, the woman said she realized no other stall doors had closed and said she heard a camera shutter sound above her more than once, according to the report.

    She looked up to see a man with a small electronic device she assumed was a camera taking pictures, police said.

    The man then quickly left the room, exiting through the east side of the building, according to the report.

    The woman described the man as a shorter Hispanic or white male, with short dark hair and a bright green shirt or backpack, according to the report.

Tempe Police reported the following incident Thursday:
  • An Avondale man was arrested on suspicion of marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession while apparently smoking marijuana in a parking lot near Fifth Street and Myrtle Avenue on Oct. 14, according a police report.Police were patrolling the parking lot when they smelled marijuana coming from two men standing near a maroon 2001 Buick LeSabre, according to the report.

    As police approached the men, they entered the car and locked the doors, police said.

    When they exited the vehicle, the man consented to a search of his person but not the car, according to the report.

    A search warrant was obtained and a bag of marijuana was found behind the ashtray and a lighter, police said.

    When questioned about the items, the man refused to answer but later randomly stated the “stuff” was hidden in his vehicle and he guessed he would “cop to that,” according to the report.

    The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending his charges, according to the report.
