Police Beat: Nov. 15

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:

  • A 20-year-old Mesa man was arrested Saturday at South Price Road and East Rio Salado Parkway on suspicion of marijuana and narcotic drug possession, according to a police report. The man was a passenger involved in a single vehicle accident in his own vehicle, police reported. When Tempe Police arrived, the man was sitting on the ground with his black jacket next to him, police reported. The man asked the officers if he could put his jacket on because he was cold, but before he could, officers asked the man if they could search the jacket pockets and the man agreed, according to the report. The officers found a plastic bag in the front pocket containing two gray morphine pills and then conducted a search of his vehicle where they found a small vial of marijuana inside the center console, police reported. The man admitted to knowing the marijuana was in the vehicle, but said it wasn’t his and he also admitted to smoking the drug recreationally, according to the report. During further questioning the man told police he had purchased the morphine pills from a street dealer, but he did not have a prescription for the use of the drug and he was taking the pills to relieve the effects of heroine, police reported. The man was transported and booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending drug charges, according to the report.
  • A 30-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sunday at West Guadalupe Road and South Maple Avenue on suspicion of aggressively driving under the influence, according to a police report. A Tempe Police officer pulled the man over after observing the man driving with his headlamps turned off, according to the report. After approaching the vehicle the officer could smell alcohol, police reported. A records check of the man’s driver’s license revealed it to be a revoked license because of a previous DUI, and the man was also supposed to be driving with an interlock device in the vehicle, according to the report. The man failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest, police reported. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail for booking and was held to see a judge, according to the report.
