Police Beat: Nov. 28

Tempe Police reported the following incident Wednesday:

  • A 23-year-old Phoenix woman was arrested on Nov. 20 at the 2000 block of North Champlain Avenue on suspicion of aggravated assault and possession of drug paraphernalia and narcotics, according to a police report.

The residents reported the women as an unwanted guest in their front yard and authorities questioned her, police reported.

The woman became agitated and charged toward one of the officers, striking him in the chest with her hands while repeatedly asking the officer if he was “scared,” according to the report.

The woman was arrested and transported to Tempe City Jail where her purse was searched, police reported. Five syringes, one containing a tar residue, a metal spoon with burnt residue and heroin were found in the purse, police reported.

When jail staff attempted to conduct a strip search of the woman, she became aggressive and slapped one officer across the face with the back of her hand, according to the report.

The woman was held to see a judge on two counts of aggravated assault, and drug charges are still pending, police reported.

ASU reported the following incidents Wednesday:

  • An unknown person or person stole a bicycle from the bike racks outside the Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex on the Tempe campus Tuesday, according to a police report.

The owner of the bike, a 19-year-old man, used a cable lock to secure his bicycle to the racks and had written “NEBB” on both sides of the bicycle frame and underneath the seat of the frame with a black permanent marker, according to the report.

Police have no leads or suspects and the estimated loss is $500, police reported.

  • On Nov. 21, ASU Police investigated an incident where graffiti markings and slogans were spray painted on south sidewall of the Central Plant South building on the Tempe campus, sometime between Nov. 4 and Nov. 7, according to a police report.

Police spoke with an ASU employee repainting the wall who said various slogans and insignias were spray painted on the wall, police reported. He said he already had taken photographs of the graffiti, which were sent to his supervisor, police reported.

The employee told police the graffiti is a reoccurring incident on the wall as a result of large bushes blocking the view between the railroad tracks and wall of the building, according to the report.

Police have no leads at this time and the estimated damage to the wall is $500, police reported.
