The ASU wrestling team play host to Embry-Riddle and Grand Canyon University in their 2011 home opener on Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena. The double-dual meet is set to begin at 2 p.m. and is dubbed the State of Arizona Wrestling Festival.

The meet will pose a tough challenge for the youthful Sun Devils, who are coming off a disappointing outing at the Eastern Michigan Open last week. Sunday’s competition will be stiff. The Eagles boast two-time national qualifier Josh Chang at 149 lbs., while the ‘Lopes roster is headlined by returning All-American Ted Bristol at 157 lbs.

Junior heavyweight Levi Cooper is ASU’s most proven wrestler, but as was the case in Michigan, redshirt freshman will make up the majority of the line-up this weekend. Look for Tommy Burriel (third at EMO) and Nathan Hoffer (fourth at EMO) to lead a pack of freshman eager to prove their worth out on the mat.

Admission to the meet is free for all ASU students. Click here to subscribe to the daily State Press newsletter.
