Police Beat: Dec. 1

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

  • A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning at the 1800 block of East Broadway Road on suspicion of aggravated assault of a police officer and false reporting to law enforcement, according to a police report.

Tempe Police responded to a service call of a man trespassing at the location on Broadway Road and when the police approached the man, he gave them a false name, birth date and social security number, which all came back to different people, police reported.

The man tried to run away after officers questioned him about the false information, but one of the officers was already holding onto the man so he was unable to flee, according to the report.

After the failed attempt, the man turned toward the officer and shoved him, causing both to fall to the ground, police reported.

When the officer and the man got up from the ground, the man tried to shove the officer again, but the officer pulled the man’s shirt over his head and struck the man with both of his hands, according to the report.

The officer eventually fired a Taser gun at the man’s back causing him to fall to the ground, police reported.

The man became compliant only after the officer fired the Taser gun at him a second time, according to the report.

The man was arrested and transported to Tempe St. Luke’s hospital for medical examination then transported to Tempe City Jail for booking, police reported.

  • A 42-year-old Tempe woman was arrested Saturday night at the 800 block of East Southern Avenue on suspicion of shoplifting, possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to a police report.

After a security guard stopped the woman, she allowed the guard to search her purse, police reported.

The officer found a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamines and notified Tempe Police, according to the report.

The woman told police the pipe was hers and she also had two small bags with methamphetamines inside her bra, police reported.

The woman gave the drugs to the officer, according to the report.

The woman was arrested, transported and booked into Tempe City Jail and was released pending drug charges, according to the report.
