Blues Dinosaurs to play annual benefit show in Phoenix

The Blues Dinosaurs will perform a light-hearted show with guest appearances Sunday to raise money for the Paz de Christo Outreach Center located in Mesa.

The founder of the Blues Dinosaurs, Pete Thelen said, “It’s been a labor of love these past 20 years with the Blues Dinosaurs.”

With a passion for singing the blues, Thelen and his Dinosaurs aim to draw awareness to homelessness.

“Over the years, the numbers just grow of those in need,” Thelen said. “That’s the sad part.”

According to Thelen though, the blues do not have to be so blue after all. Thelen assured that the event would be a high-spirited time.

“It is a celebration of all the volunteers that have worked there over the years,” he said. “Some have been there from the start 20 years ago. We’re a blues band, but it’s very jovial and upbeat.”

Thelen and his band have been extremely dedicated to the benefit concert, which has served to inspire the community to contribute to the cause.

“It’s just great to see these people. I left the Valley in 2001, and I come back every year exclusively just do this event,” the singer-songwriter said.

He continued, “They’re a good group of folks over there. I just can’t say enough. (All the volunteers) do such a great job.”

Paz de Cristo Outreach has been feeding the homeless in Mesa since 1988.

The Blues Dinosaurs will also be playing at Paz de Cristo Outreach Center in Mesa tonight from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The Blues Dinosaurs will be playing at the Rhythm Room this Sunday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 pm. A $10 dollar donation is requested.
