Once upon a time, you couldn’t even tell what color the seats were at US Airways Center for a Phoenix Suns home game.

This season, it’s tough to pick out a full row, much less a section.

Recent abysmal attendance numbers rank the Suns 24th of 30 teams in attendance this year.

While US Airways has a capacity of 18,422 for basketball, 16,235 fans (88.1 percent) showed up to Friday’s game against the Blazers, while just 13,420 (72.8 percent) appeared for the Bucks on Sunday.

I understand times have changed. It’s not Mike D’Antoni’s “Seven Seconds or Less” era anymore, but this team with a .500 record isn’t terrible.

Steve Nash is still here, and the Suns have several players like Hakim Warrick and Shannon Brown that can turn any moment into a highlight.

The lack of attendance is baffling - especially in a shortened season.

Nash is insistent upon staying in Phoenix for the last year of his expiring contract. Suns fans should at least give the man their gratitude.
