Police Beat: Jan. 19


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

 

  • A 24-year-old Mesa woman was arrested Tuesday morning at the 1100 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to a police report.A Tempe Police officer saw the woman speeding in her 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer and swerving into the bicycle lane when he pulled the woman over, police reported.The officer could smell alcohol when he approached the vehicle, and the woman said she had just left the Mill Cue Club on Mill Avenue but had not had anything to drink, according to the report.

    The woman had watery eyes and slurred speech so the officer had her perform field sobriety tests, which she did not pass, police reported.She later said she drank two or three drinks, police reported.

    The woman was placed under arrest and transported to Tempe City Jail for booking and was held, according to the report.

  • A 26-year-old Tempe man was arrested Tuesday at the 1800 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of drug paraphernalia and marijuana possession, according to a police report.A Tempe Police officer was conducting a security check at the Paradise Hotel on Apache Boulevard when he saw the man enter a room, police reported.The officer knocked on the door of the apartment, but when a woman answered, she said she was alone, according to the report.

    After a few minutes of questioning, the woman admitted the man was hiding in her bathroom and agreed to let the officer speak with him, police reported.As the officer questioned the man, the officer noticed a marijuana bong sitting on the table next to the bed and the woman said it belonged to the man, according to the report.A short time later a Spanish-speaking officer arrived to assist.

    The man admitted the bong was his and he had purchased it on Saturday to smoke marijuana, police reported.

    The officer found a usable amount of marijuana packed inside of the bowl piece, according to the report.

    The man was arrested and transported to Tempe City Jail for booking but was released pending drug charges, police reported.
