Police Beat Jan. 24

ASU Police reported the following incident on Monday:

  • ASU Police officers questioned an 18-year-old female student suspected of smoking marijuana Sunday evening inside her dorm room at Hassayampa Phase 1, according to a police report. When the woman answered her door, police asked to take a look inside the room after smelling marijuana, police reported.

When the officers told her they were investigating the smell of marijuana, she replied, “Oh, that’s because I have some in here,” police reported.

She told police she had a medical marijuana card and handed them the card from the Arizona Department of Health Services, which displayed her name, date of birth and photograph, police reported.

The officers checked throughout the dorm room and found paraphernalia and her marijuana in a zipper pouch, according to the report.

The woman initially denied smoking in her dorm room, but later told police she had smoked in her room about two or three times before their arrival, police reported.

The woman was not arrested. Police notified Community Assistants that the woman had smoked marijuana in the dorm room, which is a violation of ASU policy, according to the report.
