The Cornish Pasty Co. restaurant in Tempe is expecting to expand into the neighboring building within four to six weeks to include more seating, pool tables and a possible stage for live music, said manager and ASU alumnus Brandon Volkenant.

At the Cornish Pasty Co. location on Hardy and University Street, it is not uncommon to see a line form outside. Expanding the restaurant gives it the opportunity to provide more room for customers, said Volkenant.

“We want to maintain the same feel,” Volkenant said. “The good service, quality foods, and cozy atmosphere will remain to be a constant theme within the restaurant.”

The hope is for The Cornish Pasty Co. to provide a relaxing environment for their customers, Volkenant said.

There will be more room available for seating inside as well as outside on the patio, which will be a dog-friendly environment, said Volkenant.

The Cornish Pasty Co.’s cook Steve Bouwman said the expansion would be a great improvement.

“It will be a lot more fun around here at the restaurant, especially with the pool tables and live music we hope to have,” Bouwman said.

The Cornish Pasty Co. has a wide selection of imported beer on tap, a diverse menu and a laidback atmosphere said Bouwman.

“I’ve never seen anyone disappointed after eating a pasty,” Bouwman said. “The look of satisfaction off of a customer’s face is frequently seen.”

English literature senior Nicolette Mead said the Cornish Pasty Co. not only offers classic English style pasties filled with meat, but also many vegan and vegetarian options.

“It’s an intimate restaurant,” Mead said. “You always see someone you know here.”

The main reason for the expansion is to provide more room for customers, Bouwman said

Volkenant said if you are looking for a place that serves delicious ethnic foods, or unwind after classes with a game of pool, this is the place to do it.
