AN ELITIST CULTURE

(In response to William Hamilton’s Feb. 15 column, “ASU salaries: inequitable and obscene.”)

Bravo to William Hamilton for his op piece on administrative/faculty salaries.

Of course as financial times improve the elite few make sure their plates get filled first. So it is not surprising that "maintenance workers" and student lecturers remain at the bottom of the pay scale while the ones they support by their labor get fatter and fatter.  Look around the campus and see the physical labor types that keep the campus clean and orderly. Speak to these people and ask them how much they make for their efforts at ASU: A little above minimum, and benefits almost non-existent.

These are the out-of-sight people who clean the toilets, mop the floors, empty trash, separate the recyclables, and cut the grass. Such an elitist culture will continue as long as the fat cats get fatter. Is this the way the "New American University" is supposed to be?

Again thanks William Hamilton for speaking about the inequities that exist among those who work at ASU.
