A fire Thursday at My Big Fat Greek Restaurant closed Mill Avenue from University Drive to Rio Salado Parkway.

Mill Avenue is expected to open by 6:30 p.m. after a fire Thursday at My Big Fat Greek Restaurant closed it from University Drive to Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe officials said.

City of Tempe spokeswoman Nikki Ripley said the fire, which started just after 4 p.m., appeared to have been caused because of a grease fire in the restaurant's kitchen.

The fire then spread through the duct system to Urban Outfitters on Mill Avenue and Sixth Street. Both venues were safely evacuated, Ripley said.

My Big Fat Greek Restaurant will not open Thursday night and it is unknown when Urban Outfitters will reopen, Ripley said.

Assistant Fire Chief Marc Scott said the damage to the clothing store and the restaurant is unknown.
