All week I have been the creepy music blogger obsessively pouring over the major event occurring two states away, and I have no shame. South By Southwest (more commonly referred to as SXSW) is officially under way, from March 9to 18within the vibrant musical mecca of Austin, Texas. SXSW is a beautiful conglomerate of the best in emerging media. It contains film, music and an

interactive portion meant to engage the media and fans of all stripes. While there are both veterans and newbies alike at the major southwest conference, the line-up is always an interesting mix designed to intrigue the many that flock to Austin. Filled with performances and parties galore, it is one of the best large-scale music events of spring. Artists come from all over the world to perform their craft. To add to the excitement, Arizona’s dynamic music scene is proudly delivering several artists to the Texan musical menagerie.

Some Arizona-based bands and artists making their appearance (officially or unofficially) include: Sun Ghost, Japhy's Descent, Snake! Snake! Snakes!, Future Loves Past, Doctor Bones, Dry River Yacht Club, Steff Koeppen and the Articles, and Sareena Dominguez -- just to name a few. In addition to this fantastic opportunity for the Arizona scene to get national exposure, there are numerous national acts primed to make a pit stop in the Valley. Though day one of the Valley’s SXStateside already passed last Sunday, day two approaches at an alarming rate. Artists such as Adam Acuragi and The Lupine Chorale Society, Electric Guest (who are about to drop their debut LP that was produced by the much-esteemed DangerMouse), Peachcake and more are set to perform Wednesday, March 21 at the Sail Inn. The SXStateside event has proven to be a springtime staple and a terrific way to catch emerging artists before they hit the big time. More importantly, it’s a great opportunity to listen to some truly gifted underground artists.  So even if the old bank account has prevented you from traveling to the “Lone Star State,” take pride that you can still get a piece of the action at your local Tempe bar.
