Police Beat: March 27

ASU Police reported the following incidents Monday:

  •  A 42-year-old man was arrested Friday in the area of South McAllister Avenue and East Orange Mall on suspicion of theft and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.

An ASU Police aide, who saw the man taking a bicycle from the bike racks near the Law Library, advised a University Police officer the man was wearing a backpack and carrying a bicycle tire, police reported.

Police stopped the man matching the description and searched the man’s backpack, according to the report.

The backpack contained a pipe with marijuana residue and a metal cigarette, which the man called a “shooter,” police reported.

The man originally said he was just cutting through the campus and then told police he did not want to go to jail for something stupid he had done, according to the report.

The man said he had poor judgment as he was arrested, police reported.

He was booked into the ASU Police station before being released, according to the report.

  • A 19-year-old man was arrested Friday at the 1100 block of South Rural Road on suspicion of drug paraphernalia and marijuana possession, according to a police report.

A University Police officer was patrolling a parking garage commonly used by students to smoke marijuana when he saw two men and one woman standing against the wall on the top level of the structure, police reported.

When the officer approached the three individuals, he could smell an odor of marijuana, according to the report.

The woman told the officer the three of them had been smoking marijuana, but did not want to say whose it was, police reported.

An ASU Police aide was asked to search the ground level for any contraband the three might have thrown off the roof prior to the officer’s arrival, according to the report.

A broken glass pipe and a lighter were found on the ground and also a plastic bag of marijuana on the third floor, according to the report.

The woman told police the marijuana and pipe belonged to one of the 19-year-old men, police reported.

The man was arrested and transported to the ASU Police station for booking and released pending drug charges, according to the report.
