The ASU outdoor track and field team hosted its second consecutive meet of the season this weekend at the ASU Invitational.
“Across the board, it was an outstanding day,” coach Greg Kraft said.
Redshirt sophomore Derick Hinch won the pole vault competition, jumping over 18 feet at 5.50 meters.
Hinch's performance was the most impressive to Kraft.
“Hinch's 18-foot jump topped off the day,” Kraft said.
The ASU men's sprint team also had good performances all around.
“I really liked Will Henry in the 400 meters,” sprint coach Ronnie Williams said. “Our 4x100-meter relay team also did a good job of executing. Everything we did today had our best foot forward, and the guys were really focused.”
Sophomore sprinter Ryan Milus was in the zone, picking up wins in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and as the anchor for the 4x100-meter relay.
“I just wanted to go out there and get solid marks and keep progressing,” Milus said.
Senior jumper Chris Benard posted his best long jump mark of the year, winning the competition with a jump of 7.73 meters.
“It was really good to start the season on a high note because starting high means I’m going to finish high,” Benard said.
Other wins from the Sun Devils in the meet included Jordan Clarke in the hammerthrow, Anna Jelmini in the discus and Christabel Nettey in the long jump.
The Sun Devils will return to competition next weekend at the Jim Click Multis in Tucson before returning to Tempe the following weekend to compete in the highly anticipated Sun Angel Classic.
