“Never again.”
A powerful phrase expressing the feelings in the aftermath of the Holocaust. Anti-Semitism was thought to have ceased after these atrocities. How could anyone really murder someone for the sole reason of being Jewish? It sounds so surreal, but the Holocaust happened only 67 years ago, and yet there are monsters in the world now who are still trying to erase the history of Jews. Just in the past few weeks, three children and a teacher were shot point-blank in the head in Toulouse, France. For what? Because they were Jewish. If you haven’t already seen Mohammed Merah’s videos of his horrific murders, I promise you that seeing an eight-year-old girl running for her life only to be silenced by a bullet in the head is awfully disturbing. It doesn’t even stop at that. Jewish children in Denmark are advised not to attend public school, a Jewish DJ in Paris was horrifically tortured and the list goes on and on. We can’t stand idly by and let anti-Semitism rise to the evil it held in the 1930s.
We need to stop it. NOW.
As students, we have the opportunity to make a difference in the world through open forums and engagement.
In order to change the future, we must remember the past.
Holocaust Remembrance Day is April 19.
Sun Devils for Israel and STAND are hosting a 24-hour names reading vigil from April 18-April 19 (Volunteer to read names at tinyurl.com/namesform). We are also hosting a Holocaust survivor to come speak about her experiences in three death camps and how she has overcome the unfathomable on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in MU 202. We need YOU to help remember the victims of the Holocaust in order to help fight the atrocities that are occurring throughout the world. Contact SunDevilsforIsrael@gmail.com.
