The ASU track and field team sent only four athletes to Tucson for the Jim Click Multis, but one of the Sun Devils came away with a record-setting performance.
Junior heptathlete Keia Pinnick finished fifth overall in the competition with a score of 5,622, beating her career best by almost 170 points.
Coach Greg Kraft was extremely impressed with Pinnick's performance.
“It really was an outstanding performance,” Kraft said. “Keia is patient and works hard. She will tell you she didn't have the best indoor season, so this is a good start outdoors.”
Pinnick earned the top collegiate mark in the long jump at 6.02 meters and her time of 2:10.78 in the 800-meter run was the fastest in school history in the heptathlon and the best overall of the day.
On the men's side, redshirt junior Jeremy Marcinko was the team’s top finisher in the decathlon with 6,450 points and an 11th place finish.
The Sun Devils will return to competition next weekend when they host the 33rd Annual Sun Angel Classic.
