Police Beat: April 22


ASU Police reported the following incidents Friday:

 

  • A Tempe man was arrested on April 16 near South Rural Road and East University Drive on suspicion of littering, according to a police report.An ASU police officer was on patrol when he saw a passenger in a black 2008 Dodge Charger, which had turned onto Rural from University, drop a lit cigarette from the car, police reported.

    The officer stopped the vehicle to speak with the passenger, according to the report.

    The man said he dropped the cigarette because he wasn’t paying attention, according to the report.

    The officer asked the man why he couldn’t throw the cigarette butt in a water bottle, but the man said he was still planning on drinking the water, police reported.

    The man was arrested, given a citation and released, according to the report.

  • A 20-year-old man was arrested on April 14 at the 700 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of consuming alcohol under the legal age, according to a police report.The man was sitting in the area near the intersection of Veterans Way and Sixth Street being treated for injuries by Tempe Fire Department when an ASU police officer arrived, police reported.

    The man had a broken nose with dry blood on his face, arms and hands, and spoke with slurred speech and had bloodshot, watery eyes, according to the report.

    The man told the police officer he had been drinking non-stop since April 12 and had only passed out once during that time, police reported.

    The man also told police he was allegedly assaulted by an unknown person at Adelphi Commons, according to the report.

    After the man was transported to Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital, police kept asking him questions about the assault, but the man said the last thing he remembered was hanging out with friends at a house the night before, police reported.

    The man would not provide the location or names of friends, according to the report.

    The man was arrested, issued a citation and released, police reported.
