Traffic stop leads to drug arrest


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday.

  • A 32-year-old Mesa man was arrested the afternoon of Aug. 11 at 52nd Street and 10th Place on suspicion of marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report. The man’s vehicle was stopped by police, according to the report. Officers smelled marijuana and discovered a plastic bag in the middle console with a green leafy substance, according to the report. Police reported the man was driving with a revoked license from a prior driving under the influence charge, police reported. Police also found a glass pipe with marijuana residue, according to the report. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report. He was then released pending the drug charges, police reported.
  • An 18-year-old Phoenix man was arrested the afternoon of Aug. 12 on the 5000 block of Arizona Mills Circle on suspicion of shoplifting, according to a police report. Officers stopped the man outside of Sports Authority and discovered $300 worth of unpaid merchandise in his shopping bag, police reported. The man had attempted to remove security sensors on various items with scissors, police reported. The man said he twisted security sensors off with his hand after the scissors failed, police reported. He was taken to Tempe City Jail where he was held to see a judge, police reported.
