Man pulled over at McDonald’s drive-thru, arrested on suspicion of DUI


ASU police reported the following incidents Friday.

 

  • A 28-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sept. 10 on University Drive and Rural Road on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to a police report.An ASU patrol officer saw a red Toyota pick-up truck speed east at the University Drive and Rural Road intersection, causing the tires to screech, according to the report.The driver then swerved between lanes and into the bike lane, police reported.

    The officer turned his emergency lights on, but the driver continued to turn into the McDonald’s drive-thru on University Drive, according to the report.

    The officer approached the driver as he completed his order and asked him why he hadn’t pulled over, police reported.

    The driver told police he didn’t see the emergency lights, according to the report.

    The man told police he was at a river earlier that day and had three or four beers throughout the day, police reported.

    After pulling in to the McDonald’s parking lot, the driver agreed to a sobriety test, but not a Breathalyzer test, according to the report.

    Police brought the man to the ASU Police Station where he was found to have a .140 blood alcohol content, police reported.

    The man was cited and released, according to the report.

  • Police are investigating a burglary that occurred Sept. 10 on the 500 block of East University Drive, according to a police report.A student from the Palo Verde Main dorm complex told police he left his room for about six hours when his Citizen Eco Drive watch and Chase bank card were stolen, according to the report.Palo Verde Main community assistants said the fire alarm went off during that time and Tempe Police and ASU Police arrived, according to the report.

    Several doors were left unlocked after officers left, police reported.

    The student’s suitemates told police nothing was missing from their room and they didn’t see any suspicious activity, according to the report.

    There are no suspects and the estimated value of stolen items is $700, police reported.
