Police believe a former ASU professor took a backpack of explosives to the Liberty Bell Center on Saturday morning, according to an article in The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Carlos Balsas, 41, taught urban planning classes at ASU from 2005 until 2011 but is not currently employed by the University.

Around 10 a.m. Saturday, Balsas entered the Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia, according to the article. He left after telling security that he had explosives in his backpack, the Inquirer reported.

Park rangers stopped Balsas outside and handcuffed him, according to the article. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that police found two black backpacks that tested negative for explosives.

Balsas has been charged with, among other things, committing bomb threats and reckless endangerment, according to the article.
