Behold Sun Devil Trekies: Paramount and Qualcomm have paired up to bring exclusive "Star Trek Into the Darkness" content to the palm of your hand. "Star Trek Into the Darkness" will be released in May, but while fans wait, they will be the first to gain access to movie images, clips and even wallpaper for their phones.

The app is set for release at the end of the month, and the first opportunity for users to obtain exclusive content will take place during the Super Bowl on Feb. 3.

The app takes things one step further: It will allow for fans to engage in Star Trek style missions through the use of geolocation, a navigation tool that will notify fans when they have hit a Star Trek poster location or movie theater. Once the app recognizes the location the mission will begin, where fans must snap a picture in order to earn rewards that will be the key for exclusive content.

The app can work in the phone’s background and automatically detect a Star Trek TV spot or trailer through voice recognition. This will add more points to the user's account and will unlock more intergalactic material. The "Star Trek Into the Darkness" app is the first app to combine geolocation and voice recognition in order to interact with fans, making them part of the movie experience.

Secondary education sophomore, Brooke Meshel, is a self-proclaimed trekie. Whether she'll download the app: "I guess so. Let's put it this way: I will have the app on my phone just to have it. I will not use it, because I don't care about movie clips or wallpapers. But if it has the symbol of the federation on it, then yes."

Users who register their app online will be entered for a chance to win an all expenses paid trip to the "Star Trek Into the Darkness" world premiere.

On the other hand, Jayson Coppo, music composition graduate student, had a different opinion.

"I probably wouldn't get an app that gives me free posters and movie clips, even if it's from my favorite movie, 'Borat,'" he said. "People must realize this kind of fad is short-lived."

This app will allow Trekies to engage in real life simulated missions and will help them keep up to date on news and updates until the "Star Trek Into Darkness" release on May 17.
