Vending machine found with glass shattered, nothing stolen

ASU Police reported the following incidents Monday:

Police are investigating a criminal damage incident in which a vending machine was broken into on the 7000 block of East Sonoran Arroyo Mall, according to a police report.

The double-pane front glass of the machine in front of Santa Catalina Hall on the Polytechnic campus was shattered and glass fragments covered most of the shelves, police reported.

The outside of the vending machine was covered in dust, but the responding officer did not see any visible fingerprints, according to the report.

The vending machine still contained most or all of its contents, and all products inside were removed and placed in temporary custody at the police department, police reported.

Although the damage was reported April 17 at 7:20 a.m., a police aide said he had seen the vending machine the previous morning and it was not damaged, according to the report.

The damage is estimated at $350, police reported.

Police are investigating criminal damage to a plastic clam-shell lock and a safety glass window on the 800 block of South McAllister Avenue, according to a police report.

The building manager reported the damage on April 17 at 7:15 a.m., but it is believed that the damage occurred sometime between 3:30 p.m. on April 16 and 7:00 a.m. on April 17, police reported.

The yellow plastic clam-shell lock is worth $10 and was attached to the sand-blasting machine to prevent unauthorized use, according to the report. The broken safety glass window was located on the actual sand-blasting machine and was worth $40, police reported.

The sand-blasting machine is located on the east side of the building in the rear loading dock, according to the report. Although the manager said there aren’t any leads at the moment, three cameras located in the loading dock could help identify who damaged the machine, police reported.
