Owned by interdisciplinary studies senior Meagan Marmon’s sister, Alicia Romo, Gather Boutique on 32nd Street and Indian School Road is home to the online shop’s headquarters,

At Gather, fashionistas can find anything from iPhone cases, jewelry, dresses and shorts. Each item is hand-picked, unique and not available at Forever 21 or Love Culture, making the item ultra special.

Romo and her husband are very selective in picking out the items that they put up for sale. According to her, If it doesn't meet our expectations of quality and price, it doesn't make it into the shop.”

Being high-quality does not guarantee the item will be picked; the accessory or piece of clothing must also be highly fashionable and trend-focused.

Romo said Gather’s philosophy is that it “caters to the girl who wants great fashion, but doesn't have a bazillion dollars to spend on it. She is a girl who is generally the first of her friends to pick up on new trends and is daring enough to try them out. She also is an avid shopper, and (she) utilizes the Internet and bloggers to lead her to the next big thing. We cater to this girl by providing her the styles that will fit in to her current wardrobe, update it with something new and fresh and doesn't take her whole paycheck.”

With a degree in visual communications from New York’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Romo has an eye for spotting fashion’s latest trends and vision into what we will be seeing next season. Gather Boutique was one of Romo’s biggest dreams whilst catering to the customer worldwide.

Online exposure is different from having a solid location, as Romo describes Phoenix as a rocky environment at times when it comes to retail that is predominantly monopolized by big stores such as Nordstroms, Urban Outfitters and American Eagle. These corporations often leave local businesses like Gather in the dark.

With lots of marketing and online exposure, Romo feels that it “allows us the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the market in Phoenix without all of the overhead that a brick-and-mortar shop would require.”

This summer, Romo will be kicking off “Summer Fridays,” when shoppers can come in and shop at the headquarters and pick out from a wide selection of accessories and clothing. Hours will be announced weekly via the email newsletter, social media and website. A pop-up shop shopping event is also scheduled on July 20th, in which fashionistas can bond with other fashion lovers over clothing and cupcakes.

Gather Boutique is located at 3840 N 32nd Street #4, Phoenix, AZ 85018 and online at gatherboutique.com.
