If you have missed out on most of the staple summer activities due to classes or work, never fear. There is still plenty to do before Aug. 22.
1. Water parks
You can still enjoy some pool and water slide fun if you go to Wet’N’Wild and purchase a Summer Sizzler ticket. For $39.99 up until Aug. 11, you can come and go as you please to the water park, which is enough time to score a nice tan just before school starts.
2. Dinner and a concert
On Aug. 31, you can catch Ellie Goulding and Bruno Mars in concert at the US Airways Center. Grab some dinner at any of the wonderful places downtown Phoenix has to offer and then jam out to “Locked out of Heaven” and “Starry Eyed” for the rest of the night. Tickets for this event are sold out, but you easily go onto Craigslist to buy them as well as StubHub.
During the first week of August, you can catch The Script, Gavin Degraw and Train at the AK-Chin Pavillion. The “Mermaids of Alcatraz” tour will take place Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m.
3. Yoga
Phoenix’s very own CityScape is offering the “yoga rooftop series” every Monday evening up until the first week of September. Get ready and toned every Monday night at 7 p.m. Yoga takes place at the Lustre Rooftop Garden. Bring your own mat and get ready to say "Namaste."
4. Final Friday
Final Friday is happening this week, a free and open event featuring art, music and food in the Mill Avenue District. This event starts at 5 p.m. Friday and invites participants to explore, pick up some dinner at one of Mill's many restaurants and discover great art, all while supporting local business.
5. Hit the pool
If you thought Sunday was not a “funday,” then it is now. The Lustre Rooftop Garden downtown has an amazing rooftop pool with a beautiful panoramic view of the Phoenix skyline. Take advantage of their “Sunday Funday” special from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. for just $10.
If you just walk around the Downtown Phoenix or Mill Avenue area, you will find that there is still a vast amount of things to do before summer vacation comes to a close. Remember to bring a friend and have some fun before it's time to hit the books again.
