Being a “fanatic” of a team means different things to different people.

It can mean watching meaningless summer league games three months before any real action begins, or it can mean following an undrafted rookie’s Twitter account in July.

For most of us, it means displaying our team’s colors and logo proudly to show our support and allegiance.

Last week, the Phoenix Suns introduced the fourth iteration of their uniforms since 1968 and the most recent change since adding an orange alternate in 2004, when the club went for a more “futuristic” look.

Introduced were typical Suns colors the home white, the road purple and, unfortunately for Suns fans, an orange jersey, only this time with sleeves.

Never mind that the sleeved “jersey” is clearly a marketing ploy by adidas and the NBA to sell more merchandise; the uniforms just look out of place on a basketball court.

My proposal is simple: Replace the orange-sleeved jersey with a jersey design and color that fans would be proud and willing to wear.

The black jerseys conjure up memories of the days of Barkley, Majerle, KJ and the early Nash years. Also, simply put, black is way cooler.

I like the new jerseys, but the Suns organization needs to know that in this case, orange is not the new black.
