Asst. AD Sherman Morris placed on administrative leave following arrest

Sherman Morris, ASU football's assistant athletic director for recruiting, has been placed on administrative leave following his Aug. 29 arrest for a domestic violence incident.

“We have put a football staff employee on administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the facts in the case,” ASU officials said in an email.

Chandler Police officials said Morris was arrested at his home in Chandler around midnight on Aug. 29 on suspicion of one count of aggravated assault-serious physical injury and one count of aggravated assault-strangulation.

Police reported that Morris attempted to asphyxiate  his wife with his right arm around her neck, lifting her body off the ground during an argument. The report also stated that the suspect had punched the victim twice — once in the mouth and once in the back of the neck and shoulder area — before the two were separated by their son.

Police said the victim suffered a laceration, a bruise on her left arm and a broken tooth in the incident.

This is Morris’s first year with ASU. He previously served at LSU as director of player personnel from 2007-13. LSU had the No. 1 recruiting class in 2009 under his tenure.
