YouTube darlings Megan and Liz brought an energy-filled show to Martini Ranch on Friday.
After a snafu with the opening bands not playing at the start of the show, things kicked off with young rappers Kalin and Myles. The duo had all the girls jumping and screaming along to what can be described as “Disney rap.” With family-friendly lyrics about love and having fun with friends, everyone in the packed venue kept the energy up by dancing and singing.
While the performance was fun to watch, it was overshadowed by mediocre vocals and the awkwardness of the duo’s disc jockey on the side of the stage. However, no one seemed to notice or mind, especially when they did a spirited cover of Ke$ha’s “Die Young” and even added their own original rap verse to the party anthem.
A brief intermission followed Kalin and Myles’s set, but the anticipation for the headlining act only grew as the stage was set with colorful lights and a large backdrop depicting the name of the tour sponsors.
Megan and Liz took the stage to earsplitting shrieks from eager fans. The fraternal twins were very bubbly, a vibe that they kept up for the duration of the show.
Joined by a very talented backing band, the pair played through their catalog of bouncy pop tunes as the audience sang to every word.
Liz was especially cheerful, exclaiming, “Everyone looks so cute!”
The night continued with a slow, emotional ballad about one of the girls’ ex-boyfriends, a sentiment that seemed to be shared by many of the girls in the audience.
The highlight of the set came when the pair took requests from fans and ended up playing “Oops I Did It Again” by Britney Spears, “Long Distance,” one of their original songs, “Heart Attack” by Demi Lovato and “Roar” by Katy Perry. This is where the duo really shined, proving they had some raw talent to back up the flashiness of the show.
They continued with more of their original material and played two brand new songs that really got the fans dancing.
Megan and Liz closed the night with a song about bullying. The song definitely brought out an emotional response from the fans, which made a good ending to the show and an enjoyable evening for those who came out.
