ASU wasn’t the only team facing a Big-10 opponent on Saturday. Three other Pac-12 teams did as well. Here’s how they fared.
No. 2 Oregon vs. Tennessee: UO W 59-7
The Ducks were briefly losing this game early in the first quarter, but they overcame a shaky start and demolished the Volunteers 59-7 in what was another show of offensive firepower. The Ducks offense put up 667 yards, and 456 of them came off the arm of Marcus Mariota, who also threw four touchdowns.No. 5 Stanford vs. Army: Stanford W 34-20
The Cardinal came in as 30-point favorites but walked away only winning by 14. At halftime, they were only up by seven. Junior quarterback Kevin Hogan was 11-for-18, passing for 188 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Senior running back Tyler Gaffney led the Cardinal ground attack with 132 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.Stanford, the best rushing defense in the Pac-12 last year, gave up 284 rushing yards to Army’s triple-option attack.
No. 16 UCLA vs. No. 23 Nebraska: UCLA W 41-21
The Bruins got off to slow start, finding themselves down 21-10 at halftime. But head coach Jim Mora Jr. must have given them one heck of a halftime speech. as the Bruins scored 31 unanswered points in the final two quarters to beat Nebraska 41-21.UCLA redshirt sophomore quarterback Brett Hundley threw for 294 yards and three scores, while the Bruins offense put up 504 total yards, much of them coming in the second half.
No. 19 Washington vs. Illinois: Wash W 34-24
Keith Price is looking like he’s returned to his old form. Price tossed for 342 yards and two touchdowns Saturday against Illinois as the Huskies piled up 615 total offensive yards on the Illini.Not to be outdone by his teammate, junior Bishop Sankey who rushed for 208 yards on 35 carries.The Husky defense only gave up 327 yards in what was an overall very solid showing from Washington.
Cal vs. No. 4 Ohio State: Cal L 34-52
The Buckeyes scored on their second offensive play and from there you knew it was going to be a long day for Cal. The Bears gave up 608 yards to Ohio State including a 90-yard bomb from redshirt senior quarterback Kenny Guiton to junior wide receiver Devin Smith.Cal did have a good offensive showing as freshman quarterback Jared Goff threw for 371 yards and three touchdowns on the day, narrowly missing out on his third consecutive 400-yard passing game.
USC vs. Boston College: USC W 35-7
There finally might be an answer to USC quarterback woes as redshirt sophomore quarterback Cody Kessler got the start for the Trojans. Kessler shredded the Eagles for 237 yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-17 passing. Redshirt sophomore running back Tre Madden crossed the century mark on the ground as he ran for 102 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.The real story of the day however was USC’s defense. The Trojans held Boston College to only a minuscule 184 total yards of offense on the day.
Oregon State vs. Utah: OSU W 51-48 (OT)
Sean Mannion was on fire yet again, but the junior quarterback for OSU needed every one of his 443 passing yards to squeak his Beavers by Utah in Salt Lake City Saturday.Mannion’s Utah counterpart, sophomore quarterback Travis Wilson, threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns but also threw three interceptions. The Utes also had two runners, Wilson (142) and sophomore running back James Poole (117), run for more than 100 yards.
There wasn’t much defense in this one as the two teams combined for 1,030 yards.
Arizona vs. UTSA: UA W 38-13
The Ka’Deem Carey show was back and running in Tucson. The junior running back ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. Senior quarterback B.J. Denker had another solid day, passing for 158 yards and one touchdown on 14 of 21 passing. Denker also added another 90 yards on the ground.The Wildcats racked up a total of 264 yards on the ground and 422 total yards as they routed the overmatched Roadrunners.
Washington State vs. Southern Utah: WSU W 48-10
After knocking off USC in their last outing, the Cougars got a little easier opponent in FCS foe Southern Utah.Junior quarterback Connor Halliday was sharp, throwing for 383 yards and five touchdowns as WSU dominated in just about every major statistical category.
The Cougars defense allowed just 219 yards and only 146 passing yards against the Thunderbirds.
